Hmm... so whats stopping you from making 80-100 an hour on contracting now? do you have EAD?
It is not a big deal dude...if not for this immigration system, we could be making even more..think about $80-$100/hr if you are an independent contractor. This a minimum for a decent contract with vendor directly.
And if you have ~100-200K for investments, with some experience and any luck..you could be making another 100K out of it from trading and active investing in other areas. That comes to ~250-300K minimum. There are no bounds when life is free and in this great country. Unfortunately, things have turned discriminative and our potentials are being restricted(atleast for non-EAD guys) and you have to be prepared for getting outright kicked out of this country.

We have several bills that are being discussed to provide releif for all of us stuck in the Green Card process. We have very few dedicated volunteers working very hard and knocking the doors of representatives across the country seeking support for our bills. We need to lobby hard to get releif for all of us in this election year and lobbying is not cheap. We need dollars to keep up our lobbying efforts. We need help with raising dollars that are needed to keep working for our cause. We do not have Star Players and/or Star Athletes raising funds to support our cause. We need to do it ourselves. We all need to come together as a dedicated team with a mission to raise the targeted dollar amount. Can we do it?. Can we all step up and raise the dollars we need for our cause?.

In india, Real estates brokers are increasing land prices and apts because... of NRIs. NRI's money is coming to india like anything... So simply they are increasing... Those land are less than 50% on current price...

Since most of the crowd will file 485 now and will get EAD, I was wondering, if IV will still be putting efforts to make the PD current, or to get the option of filing 485 even if PD is not current?
This will help those -
1. who are stuck in BEC and could not file 485
2. who changed jobs after seeing no movement in PD for months, and labor is not yet filed or approved by new employer.
I am one of them.. and was wondering if there are chances of getting EAD for us. Or we will be employer dependent always.. until .. forever...

Hi all .. I am not writing this post to disagree with any one on any thing. I am very respectful of the members who participate this forum and write their suggestions/comments/ideas... Specially when I know people who are facing the same problem but do not make any efforts to solve it or join IV.
In the same lines .. my opinion , we probably need more followers and implementers who can direct IV core suggested plans.
Actively participating the Forum and visiting the web site regulary is one of the actions called for from Pappu (IV Core), you are all doing, I did that. There are other action items that need be implemented by who ever has ability, time and can direct others.
BOTTOM LINE, YOU FOLKS BRING UP INTERESTING IDEAS AND DEBATE TO THE FORUM .. PLEASE KEEP IT UP.

The prices in Hyderabad are pretty high right now. But I do not think any bubble will burst and they will come down. If anything they will maintain their current value. This is what I noticed during a recent trip to Hyderabad:
1. The people who are buying at USD$200K or USD$300K are already rich. I think they are just using this as a conduit to convert their black money into white.
2. People who are buying are not looking for a quick turn around. They are in it for the long haul.
3. The outer ring road construction is going on in full swing. It is a pretty wide road. Once done, travelling from one corner to the other would not take hours as it is taking now.
4. The metro rail project recently got awarded to Maytas consortium. They expect to have it working by 2012 and will help travel from the outlying areas.
5. The development of the city is not being limited to just one corner. Different industries (and SEZs) are being planned in different corners to help growth across the city.
What once used to be city outskirts with scant houses spread around are bustling with construction activity. And city is expanding tremendously. I can give one example that people who are familiar with Hyd can picture in their mind:
The road that goes from Lunger Haus to Gandipet via the military area.
As it was in 1996: Once you crossed Lunger Haus, there were very few civilian houses. There was a small village near the Vasavi Engg College. And then a small village (Narsingi). And then the Gandipet village. There was nothing but open land elsewhere thru the route.
As it was in August 2008: The military area remains the same. But there are developed houses all the way from Lunger Haus to Gandipet and beyond. And there are still quite a few projects going on to build educational institutions, residential bungalows/condos etc.
The outer ring road happens to go thru the Narsingi village. And this made the property values in that area to sky rocket.
Considering all these, if you can afford it, get a piece of action now. But do not expect the value to double in just a couple of years. It will be atleast 4 or 5 years before you can expect your property value to go up significantly.
if you take gapala's reasoning and your observation, it means there are more rich men in India(or cities in India) than here in USA. It is hard to believe that. Be patient, the prices will come down.

USCIS starts pre-adjudicating cases based on Receipt date. Assume that by October 1, 2007, they have pre-adjudicated PersonA plus 9,000 of the 150,000 applications and haven't reached PersonB's application yet (they go by RD).
Assuming that the visa cutoff date in Oct, 2007 bulletin is June, 2003 making both PersonA and personB current:
PersonA (PD of 2003) will get a visa number and get the case approved while PersonB (PD of 2002) with an older priority date will have to wait a while because his case hasn't been touched by USCIS yet due to the additional 150,000 filings in between that have to be pre-adjudicated first based on RD even if they have 2004/2005/2006/2007 priority dates!!

Read Section 6 of SOP [first para]. Please don't guess. As explained by many it's combination of RD and PD.
I think it will be based on the receipt date because if we look at the Service Center Processing Dates, they mention "Now Processing Cases with Receipt Notice Date of".
Any suggestions??

I'm looking for homeloan options in India. Which bank would be good to apply for home loans.
Was thinking about ICICI bank but got scared after going through the other thread about how ICICI bank is into stealing.
I would appreciate it if anyone can give me few suggestions on this.

As many members posted, avoid ICICI. When you apply for loan, they will come to you and lick your feet and will do all sorts of promise about services. But after you take loan, you won't find same level of service.
But whatever bank you decide to go with, DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER. It is not safe at all in their hand. Some banks requires SSN and some don't. ICICI requires SSN and credit report authorization. Negotiate with them. We negotiated with them and refused to give them social security number. We generated credit report ourselves and crossed out SSN and all account numbers from it properly. We did the same thing with other documents ie paystubs etc.
We have two home loans one with ICICI and another with SBI. We have better experience with SBI. My parents are power of attorney holder and they mostly deal with bank and according to them SBI is much better then ICICI do deal with locally. We have now decided to prepay our loan with ICICI in next 6 months in full.
Again remember DO NOT GIVE THEM YOUR SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBER.

Hate to be repetitive, so just read my prev response.

Here is my point. I spend several hours 3-4 hours at least every day looking through the forum posts hoping to find ways i can contribute to efforts. There are several ideas that are generated in the forum. But cannot find out who is leading it. All i am saying is if we can have a listing of initiatives with some names associated. So i can contribute to the ones that i can support.
I am not sure if i am asking for too much here. I am not a IT guy. I do not know what it takes to post it in the front page.

Dont assume that people who gone back to India and working a manager are living happily without any issues.
One of my friends whome I used to work in 2005 was promoted to manager in 2007. Now he is in a dilemma whether to continue to go up the ladder or come back doing technical stuff. Salary wise he is not getting that much and he doesnt know how the company will do infuture. It all depends on US economy. If you are looking for 18L above salary, then it is very very tough to get a job in india.
That is right. Every place has its problems. And when you are an employee - u r ONLY an employee no matter what. To come up in life or to grow, the onus is on you. It is you who choose what you want to be. If you want to return to your home country, the choice is yours and you must do it wholeheartedly, use your US experience and do something there. The world is full of options and you can chose what you want and percieve.
Navigating the system in India is not as easy as people think - u will have to tackle crocodiles and sharks for your so called dream job.
